Kenilworth work to begin

New station set to open in December 2016

Work is about to begin at the site of the new station at Kenilworth, on the route between Coventry and Leamington Spa.

Demolition work is due to start shortly, with construction work expected to begin in early 2016 and the station planned to open in December that year.

Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin toured the site on 23 February. The Department for Transport has awarded Warwickshire County Council nearly £5 million of the £12 million needed to construct the new station. The project is being managed by the council and SLC Rail.

The new station will be built on the site of the town’s previous station at Priory Road, which closed in 1965. The design, which includes a main station building and footbridge, will be in a ‘heritage’ style, incorporating elements from the original station.

The station is set to be served by a new passenger service between Coventry and Leamington Spa, operated by London Midland.
