New franchise to begin in October 2016
The Department for Transport (DfT) has started the competition for the next East Anglia rail franchise.
Procurement documents were published on 19 February, including the OJEU notice and franchise prospectus. The current franchise, held by Abellio, expires on 16 October 2016.
The DfT says that bidders for the new franchise ‘will be asked to consider achieving the recommendations from the Great Eastern Main Line Taskforce, including reducing London-Norwich journey times to 90 minutes’.
A shortlist of bidders is due to be announced in June, with an Invitation to Tender issued in August and the winning bidder announced in June 2016.
