Operators and local authorities to bid for funding
The government has announced £60 million of funding towards improvements to rail stations.
Train operators and local authorities will be able to bid for a share of the money, which can be put towards improvements such as car parks, ticket gates and better facilities. Network Rail will manage the fund, jointly assess bids and will be involved in overseeing the resulting work. Bids must be submitted by the end of May.
This is the second such round of funding made available; the previous £100 million allocation went towards improvements at 45 stations.
