ORR takes on roads as well

Regulator to oversee new Highways body

The Office of Rail Regulation will take on responsibility for monitoring England’s strategic road network from 1 April. From this date it will be known as the Office of Rail and Road.

The move comes as the government formulates a roads investment plan. As part of this, the Highways Agency will become a government-owned company, Highways England, and ORR will take on responsibility for monitoring its performance.

In addition, Passenger Focus will be renamed Transport Focus and given a new role as the road users’ watchdog.
