Current head to step down at end of year
Michael Roberts is to step down from his combined roles of Director General of the Rail Delivery Group (RDG) and Chief Executive of the Association of Train Operating Companies (ATOC) at the end of the year.
Mr Roberts joined ATOC as Chief Executive in April 2008 and took on the role of RDG Director General in October 2013. Prior to this he worked as Director of Business Environment at the CBI.
Commenting on the decision, Mr Roberts said: ‘After more than seven highly eventful years, I have decided that professionally and personally the time is right for me to move on, and to hand on the important task of helping industry players work together for a better railway.’
Martin Griffiths, Chairman of the Rail Delivery Group and Chief Executive of Stagecoach Group, said: ‘I would like to thank Michael for the major contribution he has made to Britain’s railway and improving its capacity to meet the needs of customers and our economy. His leadership has delivered an expanded and strengthened executive team at the Rail Delivery Group, which has championed better services for both passengers and freight customers.’
The consultants Odgers Berndtson have been engaged to lead the process of recruiting for Mr Roberts’ successor.
