New rail head at Parsons Brinckerhoff
Engineering consultancy Parsons Brinckerhoff has appointed Phil Downes as director of rail for the UK, Europe and Africa. Mr Downes joins PB from Amey, where he was also rail director. A chartered engineer, he comes with 35 years¹ experience in multinationals such as General Motors, Ford, Daimler Chrysler, Mitsubishi, Price Waterhouse Cooper and the US Department of Defense.
Acting rail director Julian Garratt returns to his previous role of corporate business development director.
New Chief Systems Architect for Invensys
On 1 September 2008, Invensys Rail Group appointed Shashi Anantharamaiah as Chief Systems Architect. With over 20 years of experience in rail and related industries, Mr Anantharamaiah fills this role on secondment from Westinghouse Rail Systems Australia (WRSA).
Tunnel expert for Faber Maunsell
Dominic Gibbs has joined Faber Maunsell as Director of Structures and Tunnels, based in Beckenham. His career highlights to date include the design of the Jack Lynch tunnel in Cork, and involvement in the design and construction of Tan De bridge in the Red River delta in Vietnam.
SDG expands in Scotland
Steer Davies Gleave has made two new appointments in Scotland. Scott Prentice joins as a Principal Consultant in Edinburgh. He has experience in railway enhancement projects in Scotland both as a consultant for the Nichols Group and a Development Manager for Network Rail. He managed the re-opening of the Stirling ­ Alloa ­ Kincardine railway for Transport Scotland. Martin Heath joins as an Associate in Glasgow. He is a transportation engineer who was previously with Halcrow and before that Mott Macdonald.
New Chair for passenger watchdog
Ms Sharon Grant is the new Chair of London TravelWatch. She has been Chair of the Commission for Patient and Public Involvement in Health for the last six years, and sits on the Food Standards Agency Advisory Committee on Consumer Engagement. She has extensive previous experience in local government and has worked as a parliamentary advisor and an academic
