Peter Austin

Peter Austin chosen as new MD

Arriva and MTR, joint shareholders of London Overground Rail Operations Limited (LOROL), have announced the appointment of Peter Austin as Managing Director.

LOROL operates London Overground rail services under contract to Transport for London (TfL).

Mr Austin, who is currently LOROL’s Finance Director, begins his new role with immediate effect. He has worked at LOROL for more than six years and was part of the bid team that won the contract awarded by TfL.

He reports to Jeremy Long (CEO, European Business, MTR and current LOROL Chairman) and LOROL’s former Managing Director Steve Murphy who was appointed Chief Operating Officer of Arriva UK Trains in January 2013.

Peter Austin said: “I look forward to leading the team at LOROL. By working in close partnership with TfL, and with the continued commitment of our employees, we will focus on delivering more improvements for our customers.”

Steve Murphy of Arriva said: “Peter has demonstrated strong financial stewardship and leadership across all areas of the business, and has made an outstanding contribution to the success of LOROL. He has a wealth of experience and the skills needed to develop the business and to ensure that we continue to deliver quality rail services for our customers.”

Jeremy Long of MTR said: “The LOROL team has already demonstrated unprecedented achievements in train performance and customer service whilst transforming employee satisfaction. As MD, Peter and the LOROL Executive will provide the continuity of leadership for a strong and stable base for further growth and success.”

LOROL said a new Finance Director appointment will be made and announced in due course.
