The Golden Jubilee

To mark the fiftieth anniversary of Modern Railways magazine we have teamed up with UK Railtours, the National Railway Museum and GB Railfreight to offer you the unique opportunity to be part of our special day – a railtour, a prestigious awards ceremony and a locomotive naming all in one day!

Railtour – Outward leg
Our train will provisionally depart London Kings Cross at 10.00 picking up additional clients from Stevenage and Peterborough with a 13.00 arrival at York. Haulage on this leg of the tour will be provided by classic AC Electric traction in the form of class 87 No. 87002 Royal Sovereign*. First Class diners will be served the Great British Breakfast. All
our guests will be given their own complementary copy of Modern Railway’s special 50th anniversary issue which will be published on the day of the event.

Awards and naming ceremony at the National Railway Museum
On arrival at the NRM all our guests will be greeted with complementary sparkling wine and canapés. Our anniversary awards will then take place in The Great Hall. Voted for by our readers and industry decision makers, the MR50 awards will celebrate the iconic developments that have shaped the UK’s railways over the last fifty years. To round off the award ceremony GB Railfreight have kindly
agreed to the naming of one of their Class 66 locomotives Modern Railways – The First Fifty Years. The naming will take place on the turntable within the Great Hall.

Railtour - Return leg
Having moved from the NRM, the newly named Class 66 will then haul the return leg of “The Golden Jubilee”. We shall travel back via Gainsborough, Pyewipe Junction and Newark Northgate giving ample time for our First Class
Dining Guests to enjoy a four course dinner. For Standard Class guests a buffet car is available for refreshments.

Having set down our guests at Peterborough and Stevenage we shall arrive back at Kings Cross at approximately 21.15.
