Chesterfield partnership: Talgo has donated this sleeping coach to the council to mark the ongoing collaboration between the organisations.

Talgo affirms Chesterfield commitment

Spanish manufacturer Talgo is to enter into a framework agreement with Chesterfield Borough Council as part of its plan to develop a UK presence.

The company has established a Head Office in Chesterfield and has confirmed ambitions to develop an Innovation Centre, co-located with Barrow Hill Roundhouse. It’s UK ambitions also include a major manufacturing plant at Longannet in Scotland.

Marking the forthcoming framework agreement, a 250km/h Talgo coach previously used on overnight trains between Paris and Madrid has been gifted to Chesterfield Borough Council. The coach has been delivered for training and education purposes.

Talgo intends to introduce ‘true manufacturing’, sourcing from the UK supply chain rather than assembling kits from overseas. A key part of its strategy is ‘knowledge transfer’ – building UK domestic capacity for Research and Development. A feasibility and stage two design study has been commissioned to develop the innovation and training centre, which would deliver over 3,400 square metres of floorspace, 190 jobs and capacity for 1,800 learners over 10 years.
